MANUFACTURING
We will continue to focus on improvement programs and close social dialogue.
Helly Hansen has a clear philosophy that close engagements with our partners and long-term relationships lead to greater job satisfaction and the feeling of empowerment amongst the people working within our supply chain. We will continue to work towards proper living wages, workplace safety, and protection against discrimination. Our focus is on social programs where dialogue and improvement plans are put into place.
SUPPLIERS
The relationships in our supply chain will define a large part of the materials we use and how they are produced. All suppliers must sign our chemical compliance contract, including our restricted substance list (RSL). The RSL is based on bluesign®’s RSL and is REACH compliant. We have a long-standing relationship with a majority of our suppliers, having worked with many of them for 20–30 years. Through these partnerships we develop the most unique materials, the highest quality and optimal production methods.
All Helly Hansen’s suppliers have gone through risk assessment processes; both country risk assessment and geopolitical assessment. Valid factory inspections needs to be in place before the factory can be approved for further collaboration.
These inspections are based on our ethical and environmental criteria’s outline in our Code of Conduct that needs to be signed by all Helly Hansen suppliers.
Helly Hansen has made a commitment to follow the standards of the BSCI – Business Social Compliance Initiative, but we recognize that many of our existing suppliers/factories may already have an audit other than a BSCI audit and to avoid audit fatigue, we will also accept the following audits if they meet our criteria and results are favorable: WRAP, SMETA, SA8000, ICTI, RBA and Better Works.
If the factory does not have any of the before mentioned audits, Helly Hansen will schedule a BSCI audit as well as assist the vendor/factory prepare for the audit. Helly Hansen requires a “C”rating or better for a BSCI audit. In the event that the factory receives a “D” rating or below we will require a Corrective Action Plan and follow-up audit to be conducted within three months.

SAFE WORKPLACES
Helly Hansen has a clear philosophy that close engagements with our partners and long-term relationships lead to greater job satisfaction and the feeling of empowerment amongst the people working within our supply chain.
Across our entire supply chain, Helly Hansen is committed to ensuring the safety of our workers, from the factory to the store. Our parent company, Canadian Tire Corporation, was one of the founding members of the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety in 2013, and together, we continue to collaborate with other brands and retailers through Nirapon to maintain the improvements that factories have implemented.
Nirapon is a non-profit organization, that was established to advance the common business interests of North American brands who are passionate about the safety management in their RMG factories in Bangladesh.
Helly Hansen is fully committed to monitoring safety conditions for the benefit of workers in the Bangladesh RMG, to ensure they are not only safe, but that measures implemented in the factories are sustainable. Nirapon facilitates collaboration with its members, Bangladeshi factory owners and workers, government, labour groups and other stakeholders to build on improvements made since 2013.
