Durable and easy to care for
A quality rain jacket is an investment that should last for many years. Our men’s rain jackets are unwaveringly durable and hard-wearing, but also easy to care for.

While we implicitly trust in our products and craftsmanship, all of our products are covered by a 2 year manufacturers warranty to give you additional peace of mind. Please check the product details and care labels for warranty information and cleaning instructions.

Trusted by professionals
For over 145 years, athletes and explorers have trusted their lives to Helly Hansen clothing. Like them, we want you to enjoy the great outdoors in comfort and style, and our rain coats are a small part of that journey.

What is the difference between water repellent and waterproof?

Most rain jackets will be treated with a Dirt & Water Repellent (DWR). This stops water soaking into the jacket, causing it to bead on top of the jacket.

By contrast, a full waterproof will not necessarily prevent the water from soaking in but will prevent it from soaking through to the inside of the jacket.

If you’re looking to purchase a rain coat, it’s best to ensure it is waterproof but has a water repellent coating too. When you reproof a rain coat, it is the water repellent coating that you are refreshing.

What waterproof rating do I need?

All of our rain jackets are waterproof however they have different waterproof ratings, ranging from 5K to 20K+. The number equates to how many millimetres of rain the jacket will withstand; for example a 5K jacket would keep you dry under a minimum of 5000mm of rain.

The level of waterproofing that you require will depend on what you are doing and where you are going. As a guide:

  • <5K: Great for shorter hikes or packing away into a bag as an emergency layer for travelling. They are suitable for light showers but a higher rating would be better for heavy rain
  • 10K-15K: Will keep you dry through multiple heavy downpours but unlikely to stand up to a long day of persistent, heavy rain.
  • 20K<: If you’re a seasoned hiker and want to be out in any condition, this is the right jacket rating. It will keep you dry day after day.

Are all rain jackets breathable?

Keeping the rain out is essential but to stay dry, you also need to consider breathability ratings. If your jacket is not breathable, there’s no way for perspiration to get out. While this may be okay for gentle activity, for anything beyond a light walk, we recommend choosing a breathable option to stay comfortable.

Similar to waterproof ratings, breathability ratings are measured in mm. As everyone is different, both in terms of level of fitness and perspiration levels, there is no hard and fast rule about the right breathability rating. However, we suggest:

  • <5K: Suitable for light activity only.
  • 10K-15K: A good intermediate option suitable for moderately challenging hikes. If you are going at pace, up steep descents, trail running or know you are prone to sweating, we recommend going up to a 20K rating.
  • 20K<: Will keep you dry and comfortable no matter how hard you’re working or how much you sweat.
